The specialty of Chinese Philology is a superior discipline which has fair influence throughout the nation. In 1981, the specialty was included in the earliest group to confer the master degree. It began to confer the doctoral degree in 1993, and in 1994, it was listed in the provincial key disciplines. At present, the specialty owns 8 doctoral supervisors and 13 graduate tutors, and four researching branches including History of Chinese Language, Chinese Lexicology, Chinese Dialectology and Studies on Script & Calligraphic Culture. All those branches are capable of carrying forward the achievements and methods of traditional philology, applying modern linguistic theories, inspecting and approaching all kinds of linguistic phenomena from longitudinal and horizontal angels, and then summarizing their laws. The faculty have published series of important research achievements, and produced good influence within the academia.
